Originally from Liverpool and moved to Anglesey in 1985 after 24 years in BT.
My family home is now in Trearddur Bay , near Holyhead, Anglesey .
I began training as a Hypno-psychotherapist in 1989 and became fully qualified in 1992. I believe that my training will never be finished as life changes so much. It is part of my registration requirements that I pursue Continuous Practice Development, training to the satisfaction of the United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapist. In 1998 I began a Master of Arts Degree in Practitioner Skills Development, this was a research degree into "The use of hypnotherapy to alleviate the unwanted effects of chemotherapy for women with breast cancer" and was awarded the Degree in 2001. It is unusual to have a degree based on your own working environment and as such I believe that at present (2002) I am the only Hypno-psychotherapist in Wales to have such a degree.
Formerly a Governing Council Member for the National Register of Hypnotherapists and Psychotherapists and frequently employed by University of Wales to lecture.
Hypnotherapy
This therapy utilises a state of hypnosis. Hypnosis is a progressive state of relaxation which you allow yourself to enter and enable the unconscious or subconscious part of your mind to learn alternative ways of achieving a desired outcome.
The problem areas are discussed fully, as is the proposed therapy, then when the client fully understands, the therapy takes place.
In some sessions, the client remains quiet during the relaxation but in others, it may be necessary to talk but you are always in control of what you say. This is helpful in problem solving but it may be necessary to use Guided Imagery to promote feelings of
well-being.
