Maureen Doncaster

ICHT. ICHFST

Maureen Doncaster ICHT ICHFSTI have lived, and worked in the environs of Porthmadog for thirty years. Having taken early retirement from teaching in this area, I pursued a career in holistic therapy. Later developed my qualifications in sport and remedial massage, and in doing so, harmonised my love of physical movement with a holistic approach to therapies/treatments. I have twenty-five years experience of teaching physical education in the secondary, primary and special needs areas with some working experience in the leisure and outdoor pursuits. My previous vocational experiences have given me a broad knowledge of many differing aspects of physical activities.

My own interests outside of work include fencing, canoeing, rock climbing, scuba diving, swimming, gymnastics, yoga and cycling. With the knowledge I've accrued in these activities help me with the therapies I administer. I've also given lectures and demonstrations to many groups, and assisted in runnung of massage courses.

Sports massage can facilitate a general relaxation of the musculoskeletal system. It can also be directed into specific problem areas where stress or injuries have been experienced. 'Sports massage can help to remove the accumulation of general aches and pains. This type of massage, is directed and suited to the individual needs o f the athlete.

Massage can stimulate and relax the body and the mind. The skin, blood, and lymphatic systems are stimulated; this in turn boosts circulation, aids cellular renewal, and removes toxic wastes. As tense muscles relax, stiff joints loosen, and nerves soothe, an all-over feeling of relaxation and well-being comes about.

Aromatherapy massage is a very gentle form of massage using carrier oil, to which 'Essential Oils, are added. Essential Oils are extracted from plants, which contain chemicals with healing properties. The carrier oil and Essential Oils are mixed to suit the needs o f the individual.

Reflexology is a therapy that works on the feet. The intention is to balance the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of the body. Certain areas of the feet have been found to correspond to organs or particular systems of the body.
After a preparatory foot massage; firm, but gentle pressure using the thumb or fingers is applied systematically over the whole surface of each foot. Where a problem or weakness exists in an organ or area of the body, some discomfort may be felt, in the foot, or in the corresponding body part. By using appropriate techniques, relief from many physical and emotional conditions may be experienced.
